But the notation is modern, i.e. post-1600. Every character has a segment of 5-line musical staff onto which notes, clefs, rests, accidentals and dots have been put so that a simple musical example in whole notes, halves, quarters or eighths (or any combination) can be typed without the necessity of quitting to a drawing program or notation program. It looks beautiful for single-line examples, but of course it's not intended for serious musical notation. The font is absolutely free.

OffenbachCaps.dd FontDL AMUG CD:Files:Font:O:OffenbachCaps.dd 0 454K 7/25/91 Another very ornate drop caps PostScript font created with Art Importer. It is type 3, so it doesn't work with ATM. The letters are black serif letters in the middle of intricate floral designs and are not surrounded by a box. The letters themselves take up only about one fourth of the area of each letter. This font needed three fonts to hold all the PostScript code, and loses detail below 72 points. Also, using several characters on a single page gives my printer fits, so it must be used sparingly. Munchner Caps.dd FontDL AMUG CD:Files:Font:M:Munchner Caps.dd 1 266K 7/25/91 A type 3 PostScript font (not ATM compatible) of 26 finely drawn capital letters. The character shapes are made by animals, celestial bodies and the like, on black square backgrounds with other detail work in the blank space. Since the characters are so detailed and finely drawn, it took two fonts to hold all the PostScript code. Probably shouldn't be used at sizes under 72 points, and using a lot of characters from the font on one page gives a printer fits. It looks a little like Helvetica Bold-Italic characters shredded and put back together crooked -- like those signs that say "Stressed Out?" or "How good is your eyesight?" These characters look like they are on a continuous banner, or ribbon, with shading, etc. A very neat looking Victorian display font, best at 36 points or larger -- screen display is useless below 48 points. Shalom.cpt FontDL AMUG CD:Files:Font:S:Shalom.cpt 1 28K 7/01/91 Shalom is a fairly complete Hebrew typeface. It is, however, just another font as far as the Mac is concerned. The standard American Macintosh is not really set up for an alphabet that reads from right to left. Anyone using this font will find themselves composing Hebrew text “backwards,” or left to right. Sorry, there’s not a whole lot I can do about it. If you really need a Hebrew font that writes in the right direction, you probably want something else. Try some commercial places. A company called Davka based out of Israel has received high praise from others, but I know nothing about them personally.
